A special presentation of Buddha’s teachings for the people of the modern world.
To provide a vehicle for promoting Kadampa Buddhism throughout the world, in 1991 Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche founded the New Kadampa Tradition, International Kadampa Buddhist Union (NKT–IKBU). The NKT-IKBU is an international association of study and meditation centres that follow the pure tradition of Mahayana Buddhism derived from the Buddhist meditators and scholars Atisha and Je Tsongkhapa and introduced into the West by the Buddhist Teacher Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso.
Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche
Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso is the Founder of the New Kadampa Tradition.
For over 40 years he has shared this knowledge and experience with the people of the modern world, giving thousands of teachings, composing twenty-two highly acclaimed books, establishing hundreds of centres around the world, and inaugurating the International Temples Project (ITP), a unique international fund dedicated to public benefit.
Drawing on the profound lineage of ancient wisdom that he holds, Geshe Kelsang presents the teachings of Buddha in a way that everyone, even non-Buddhists, can easily apply them to their daily lives and begin to experience true inner peace. This unique lineage lives on in the teachings of Geshe Kelsang’s disciples who he has trained to become Teachers of modern Buddhism.
Through almost twenty years of study and practice in the great Tibetan monasteries followed by another twenty years of meditation retreat in the Himalayas, Geshe Kelsang has earned a reputation as a great contemporary practitioner and Teacher of Buddhism.

International Temples Project
The International Temples Project was founded by Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche, with the aim to introduce the Buddhist faith and practice of the New Kadampa Tradition publicly, and to exemplify contemporary Buddhist practice through service to the public. It presently achieves this through building traditional and non-traditional temples, meditation and retreat centres, and through the activities of world peace cafés and Tharpa Publications.
Our very own Kadampa Meditation Centre at Majorstuveien 26 was established from the International Temples Project Fund.
